About me

‘Dj Nova’ - an interesting name that refers to a star that ejects some of its material in the form of a cloud and become more luminous in the process - is truly synonymous of this South African Dj who acts as the force behind this ambitious company
Sleek, Humble and Witty - Nova has always had an eloquent passion and devotion to Music (at one point he was sure wanted to be a professional drummer while growing up in Polokwane).He still possesses that passion – a drive that he has shown since young when, in his bedroom at home, he would re-assemble and re-wire about every radio or hi-fi stereo bought at home in an effort to try and amplify the sound !
Since the mid- 80's he got involved in rap music and Rn’B – when the two genres were the main mediums streamed on radio and Tv, but being a rather strange character, he was lured by a more distinct and intriguing sound that was developing underground during that era- The music called House. This was some unordinary type music that was very hard to get as it was not usually played a lot on radio – only late at night or at clubs.But Nova would stay up during those ungodly hours just to be able to ‘record’ some of the tracks on tape for his personal use – It was fulfilling after all!
As time passed he got himself familiar with legends of House that really influenced his musical journey to date – Greats like Frankie knuckles , Larry Heard “ Mr Fingers” Louie Vega, Alton Miller are some of the few House producers that intensified his musical voyage till today. He still boasts to all who care to listen about his first ever Vinyl record he bought in 1991 by Frankie Knuckles ‘The Whistle Song’!!

Nova’s journey through music was blessed when he relocated to Pretoria in 1997 to do his studies in Engineering, He found himself in a city very rich in music and started frequenting clubs as Ellesse - where Dj’s Christos and Vinny da Vinci were throwing amazing parties, Club Gemini, Club Jive and Voodoo Lounge.
He started collecting music on a serious note and saved money to purchase his first turntables and sound equipment to learn the art of dj-ying and be able to hire out his equipment when booked for private parties. He drew his inspiration and drive to focus on his ambition from the young and upcoming Dj’s of that era as– Kanunu, Pepsi and the late Iggy Smallz.
It was in 2002 at Voodoo lounge that he got his first club gig, putting what he was practicing at home and small parties around Pretoria’s student life to the test .He started off playing in earlier slots- quite a rude awakening! But he came out unscathed ..This propelled him to learn more about the Entertainment industry and still continued to play at private parties for friends whenever he could find the time between studies.
Nova’s constant networking and spinning records created the right atmosphere for unforgettable parties and started making a name for himself around Pretoria student life. By 2004 he was experimenting with other music genres as Hip Hop and Kwaito and managed to land a residency at Club Jive – an infamous club in Sunnyside Pretoria for 2 years till its closure.
In an effort to perfect his quest to be a complete Musician, He decided to learn music production in 2007 and composed music that he would include in his sets. In 2008 he composed more songs and did not release them as he wanted to compile his own cd project, but the deal with one of the reputable Record Label could not be reached and the project fell through.
However Nova never stopped hoping, he decided to sell some of his music online and supporting other Dj’s by distributing his royalty free tracks. His recent Ep – “Tease me in the rain” is currently being remixed by a couple of producers, showing some glimpses that he was heading in a good direction music-wise!
In that same year he started involving himself with other private entertainment sectors as Events management and Sound Engineering and as the saying goes... all else is history!
