Hard trance DJ’s Steve Hill and Simon Qudos will be rocking the dancefloor at the HTML event happening at Cashmir in Edenvale this Friday 11 December. Mr Spencer caught up with the guys this week to find out what chaos they will be unleashing…Steve, you are back in South Africa yet again. What brings you back to our shores? I haven't been back to South Africa in 2 years unfortunately. The last time I played was at H20 in JHB and Liquid in CT which were both off the hook! Since then I’ve been in the studio and touring but have come out of the studio having finished my 100 track artist album, HTML (Hard Trance is My Life) ready to come back with a box full of new tunes to drop! I can't wait! Simon, tell the South Africans that don’t know you yet a bit more about yourself. For those that don't know me yet, I'm a UK based hard dance DJ & Producer and have been DJing now for just a shade over 4 years. I decided to give DJing a go because I wanted to be involved in creating the atmosphere that I'd witnessed other DJ's create...and I've never looked back since! I started producing late 2007 and my 1st release was with Velocity. Since then I've experimented with different styles of hard trance but of late favour those harder edged tunes :) It's been a year since I was last DJing in South Africa and I'm really pleased to be back. This Joburg gig is a real bonus and I’m looking forward to this and my gig at Traxx in Durban on 19th December. Alright guys, where do you see the hard dance scene going in the next few years. Is hard trance dead? Steve: I hope not. That's the title of my next album! LOL! I think the definition of Hard Trance has changed. It now incorporates pumping Trance on one side to the Hardstyle influenced Hard Trance on the other so it's very current and varied. It still rocks at every show I play it and that's been in over 12 countries in the past year or so! Simon: I don't think that hard trance will disappear but certainly the scene has changed a lot over recent times, particularly in the UK. There is still a big following and we just need to find ways to continue to successfully promote hard trance. Any new productions or projects on the horizon for you guys? Steve: I've just mixed the Tidy vs Masif CD for Tidy in the UK with Technikal, plus mixed Masif Hard Dance Anthems 3 CD alongside BK, Alex Kidd, Kidd Kaos, Luca Antolini, Bootek DJ's, Technikal and MDA & Spherical! I've also nearly finished my HTML (Hard Trance is My Life) album which features over 100 of my productions and remixes on a 5CD set. Just have to mix that down! That'll be enough for now I think! Simon: I have just launched my label called “Ignite Digital” and today sees our 3rd release, Simon Qudos & Iridium "Exploit". Things are going well even though its a brand new label. I've been really pleased to get such positive feedback and support from the likes of Phil Reynolds, Anne Savage & Rodi Style. Aside from the label, I have plenty more hard trance projects in the pipeline as well as some hard house ideas ;), What do you think about the Springboks? Give us a Kiwi and Englishman’s point of view. Steve: Ah the mighty Springboks. To be honest, as an All Blacks supporter, it's great to have a tough game each and every time you play us. Sometimes you are too bloody good though! Many times I've lost sleep after watching you guys play us! Simon: I'm not a big follower of rugby, but I know our record against you guys isn't that great in recent years. We haven't beaten you for some time lol so you must be good haha :) Tell your fans about the upcoming SA tour. What can we expect to hear from you guys? Steve: From me A mixture of brand new material I've been working on and classics I'm well known for. This alongside some of the biggest tunes around in Hard Dance and Hard Trance...will be a fun packed set from start to finish! Simon: You can expect my sets to feature the best hard dance tunes that I've been able to get my hands on as well as showcasing some of the new and forthcoming releases from my label. I’ll be incorporating some classics in to my sets to really reflect the full spectrum of hard trance and hard dance sound from the last decade.
