Marco V is versatile, vibrant, and very popular according to DJMAG whose annual International DJ Top 100 saw him voted in as 15th in the world! Reigning from the Netherlands, the DJ; whose heart beats for Trance and Progressive House, has garnered his incredible following through his persistent presence in production. His music is said to be “energetic, crowd-pleasing, high-quality and easily recognised”, resulting in the coining of the term “V-sound”. Marco seems both ambivalent and delighted about this, saying “That’s what people are calling the music I make and play; its basically different, quality music with a nice groove.” That special V-sound flavour is very prevalent on his new compilation, Combi:Nation 2. A play on words, the concept of the Combi:Nations series embellishes on Marco’s love for different styles of music- as found on the album and his DJ career- having taken him to play his music in different nations all over the world. The second in the series, Combi:Nation 2 is a gathering of Marco V’s favourite tracks- all tried and tested dancefloor hauls! The double disc album features Marco V in two very different mindsets. When asked about the vastly contrasting mixes, Marco says, “Disc one, The Back Room is a reflection of how I’d play for a smaller intimate crowd and Disc 2, The Main Room is how I like to play at a festival or big club.” Marco’s style of music has progressed since the first installment 3 years ago; instilling a larger use of vocal tracks in Combi:Nation 2, as well as edits and reconstructions of several classics, but insists it still holds the vibe and energy of the first one. Both discs in the album have an edge and quality finish, unique to Marco V’s style, which he divulges “comes naturally”, saying “I just like good music, I don’t care what style it is!” Having played in differing locations, and with house-music constantly changing shape, Marco predicts the nature of electronic dance music, and in particular the “electro” affection, will be very commercial over the next 2 years and then flow, hopefully with grace and a loud bass beat, into a new, rejuvenated direction. Focusing on the technology that has influenced this strong movement, Marco says of the “V vs. T debate”; “I still like to play and buy many vinyl tracks, but I don’t think I will ever go back to DJ’ing with ableton or vinylscratch- it just doesn’t feel right for me.” Adding, just in case: “But you never know!”. Infamously playing on a set of pioneer DVDJ’s at the 2004 edition of Sensation White- and playing to a white clad crowd of 50 000 people, Marco says he doesn’t feel going digital is cheating. “All the promo stuff nowadays is digital. I record all my vinyl onto CDR’s as I make lots of edits- and my own productions.” Marco regards the ability to “feel” the crowd as the most important part of creating and holding a lucrative career in the industry, “It’s what has kept me around all these years- the audience is always my first concern!” …And his biggest challenge: “Making people dance and have a good time… but its a nice challenge every time!” It has been well noted that Marco V never leaves the dancefloor empty. “I can’t get enough of DJ’ing and producing” Marco says, illustrating his dance-floor as full of energy, driving baselines and lots of fun. “The best things for me are travelling all over the world, meeting new people- everyday, sharing my greatest passion and getting paid for it! Looks like the perfect DJ career- and sounds like the perfect Combi:Nation! |
