| | THE BEST ... ...WAY TO SPY ON YOUR PARTNER LIPSTICK on collars or smelling of a strange perfume used to be how cheating husbands got caught out. But in these days of big divorce settlements, spurned partners are gathering evidence the hi-tech way. | | By Craig McQueen One US firm has produced a SIM card reader that opens text messages AFTER they've been deleted - and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Other surveillance gadgets used today would look at home in spy films. They're legal and freely available from websites spystoreuk.com, spycatcheronline.co.uk and brickhousesecurity.com Here are a few of the best: HIDDEN CAMERAS INSTALLING a hidden camera that is easy-to-use and easy to hide is now possible. There are all manner of everyday objects you can buy which hold tiny cameras. Placing one bedside the alarm clock is a common choice but for a better view of the bed opt for a wall clock, DVD player or a portable radio you can move around. MOBILE PHONE TRACKING FOR years it has been possible to subscribe to services which trace your child's mobile phone based on the location of the nearest phone mast. If you're worried someone may not be telling you the truth about where they're off to, this can also be used to find them. However, this is useless if the phone is off and such services send a text to the target phone when you ask to know its location. WIRELESS BUGS JUST as cameras are getting smaller, so are audio recorders - but many devices with UHF transmitters are illegal. Instead, you can buy bugs fitted into everyday objects such as plugs, lamps, sockets and smoke detectors which contain their own SIM card and work like a mobile phone. Dial the number to listen in. PHONE RECORDERS THERE are plenty of gadgets you can connect to your landline to record both sides of any conversation. One such useful device is a USB recorder which connects from your phone to your computer and places a copy of all conversations directly on to your hard drive. GPS TRACKING WHILE mobile phone tracking is useful, it's not always as accurate as you might like and there's always the chance of the person turning their phone off. If you're looking to build up an accurate picture of someone's movement then a GPS receiver is for you. It uses satellites rather than mobile phone masts and can show you an accurate trail on a map of where your loved one has been. The only problem is they need to carry a GPS receiver which you have to conceal. COMPUTER KEY LOGGING COMPUTER hackers regularly use software that records every keyboard button a user presses so they can find out passwords and sensitive information. But if your programing skills aren't up to much, you could opt for a tiny device which plugs into a USB port at the back of the computer and will make a note of every email, chat room message or anything else your loved one types in. If you're worried they'll find the device, there are keyboards that have the same technology built-in to stop suspicion being aroused. THE TEDDY CAM THE problem with many surveillance gadgets is that you'd have no reason for using them other than snooping on your loved one. If you are looking for something which has a plausible use if found, the Teddy Cam is for you. This innocent-looking bear costing less than R500.00 has a camera in its nose and is designed to connect to your TV so you can keep an eye on your baby in the other room. But if it were to accidentally end up elsewhere, who'd notice? | | INTERCEPTOR SOFTWARE FOR a slightly more hi-tech and downright more sneaky method of checking the contents of your loved one's phone, you could splurge on software to give you access to all phone calls and text messages the phone receives and sends. When installed by you on the target phone, such software promises you'll be able to listen to conversations, receive copies of texts, get a note of the phone's location and even find out if the SIM card has been changed. VEHICLE TRACKING MANY companies these days fit their cars and vans with tracking devices to keep an eye on vehicles and employees. But if you're looking to inject a bit of James Bond-style espionage in your search for the truth, you can use the same technology - although it could cost you. Some small units come complete with powerful magnets which would allow you to attach it to the underside of your other half's car and follow their movements without them knowing. Some advice on whether or not to spy on your Partner by Stephany Alexander As an infidelity expert who has given infidelity advice to thousands of people since early 2000, spying on your partner can be tricky and risky business. The question is whether spying on your partner is moral. The answer is it depends on the situation. Some people think that spying is always morally wrong no matter what the circumstances. Others believe that knowing the truth is the most important thing. According to an infidelity poll conducted by WomanSavers of 143,799 women, 54 percent had caught their man cheating red handed, 54 percent had suspected but never caught him and 10 percent had never been cheated on. Most people seem to agree that spying on your partner without their knowledge without having just cause is wrong. However, is it always wrong to spy if your partner has given you indication of infidelity? Most people suggest open communication if they suspect infidelity but many times the cheating partner will lie about being unfaithful and cover their tracks better. Unless you have concrete, factual proof of the infidelity, cheaters often deny any wrongdoings. If your partner is being unfaithful, it is likely the relationship will eventually end whether you spy or not. However, if you spy and confirm that he or she is cheating, then you have the option of either trying to save the relationship or leaving. By not investigating at all, you may be living a lie. The ultimate mistake is to do nothing and bury your head in the sand. Whether it is communication, counseling or spying, the goal is to get the truth out in the open. There are currently many technological surveillance devices on the market to catch a cheater—everything from a computer keystroke logger that tracks every keystroke to a voice activated digital recording device. There are now even GPS tracking devices no larger than a pack of gum that trace everywhere a car goes. For your own safety, please make sure that you check your local laws before spying on your partner. The ultimate decision on what to do if you suspect infidelity is up to you. However, as the old saying goes, “the truth shall set you free.” WOULD YOU SPY ON YOUR PARTNER? Check out the forum topic on Mr Spencer.com here. | | |
