Mr Spencer's Five Best Stoner movies of all time Print E-mail
Thursday, 27 November 2008 15:42

For all of you out there that have had that one opportunity to sit your butt down roll a shimmy sham of some great mountain giggly stick and watch a stoner movie, have either found them to be too stupid or even extremely hilarious. This is where the best voted can give you a clear idea of what to rent out the next time you and the gang plan on divulging in smoky rooms, lots of giggles and the infamous munchy demands.

LET US KNOW WHAT YOURS ARE ON OUR FORUMS HERE.

5. Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001)
Now this movie is an all time classic which has run with the same characters from the 1994 movie ‘Clerks’ starring Jason Mewes and Kevin Smith. The basic idea for this movie was basing it on the characters of Jay and Silent Bob and basing it on their lives. Yet, these two unlikely heroes have a comic book based on their lives called ‘Bluntman and Chronic’ and the creator of the comic book decidedly puts an end to this blitzed duo by ending the life of Chronic. To Jay that can’t be allowed without some green in hand (money), nookie and blunt. Quite, the adventure with a bucket load of laughs.

4. The Big Lebowski (1998)
Jeff ‘the Dude’ Bridges plays the Dude in this first name of a mistake movie. The storyline revolves around the Dude, who’s mistaken for another man with exact same last name; only difference is that the Dude is your gown sporting, boxer wearing: spliff smoking hero. Funny part in the movie: one of the Dude’s friends dies and ends up being cremated and all the friends head out to a cliff overlooking the ocean to cast his ashes, but worst case scenario the wind ends up blowing in their direction and they end up with….. Yah, you get the idea.

3. Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle
Now here is a classic tag team duo mix of morals versus wants and Harold ’Rolldee’ Chan and his wing man Kumar Patel do it justice. When a man has a hunger that nothing else will satisfy, he ends up building it into a crusade where nothing and no form of celestial will stop him from satisfying the hunger. This is what basically puts the whole story line together, and what is even more interesting is that at the end of the movie there actually is a moral to the story. Surprisingly, stoners actually do think about the future. Another thing a blast from the past, if any of you remember Doogie Howser MD the series from the 80’s Neil Patrick Harris makes a few appearances and their not medical in anyway.

2. Cheech and Chong: Up in Smoke
OK, now you can call our list blasphemous, since Up in Smoke is generally the consensus No. 1. Hey, it was time for a shake-up, what can we say? Even so, Cheech and Chong’s first feature-length film (out of 10) is the classic of pot cinema and remains a landmark thereof, released uncoincidentally during the peak of marijuana decriminalization. For proof, look no further than the movie’s poster, featuring Cheech and Chong rolled up in joints, an image that still provokes a “How the hell'd they get away with that?” reaction. Upon first viewing, Smoke is a stoner’s wet dream come true, and the replay value is high as a kite. But the top spot should be reserved for the movie that’s great AND pothead-friendly, and Up in Smoke is really only the latter.

1. How High
How high can you get, no need to answer that question because Method Man and Redman have gone out and done us the favour by making this hilarious tickle of a movie. In this spoof Method and Red end up smoking some killer Doobie that helps them pass their SAT’s with flying colours. They end up going to Harvard University where they have to buck up and follow the rest of the fish, but not everything is that simple with these, ‘smoke it up get high’ kind of guys. The storyline is well structured and the gags are brilliant. If there’s someone out there with their own alphabetised vault of all the green…..you know where to find me.
