Joining the wealth of talent gracing venues in South Africa, is the lovely Australian lady DJ XDream. Mr Spencer caught up with the hard house magician, leading up to her two performances in Johannesburg and Durban at the event Hard Kandy this month. She describes her sound to be ‘tough kicks and bass, huge melodies with sexy twisted girl vocals, whilst scratching, sampling, using acapella’s and doing my own vocals wherever I can.’
Whew.

We caught up with Jamie Lee from Australia, who lives in Sydney. Stating her profession as a professional DJ and producer, she has been invited to play at Hard Kandi, after playing the event in Melbourne last year. Following amazing feedback she will join the event here in South Africa in Durban at Traxx on the 20th of April, and in Johannesburg at Voodoo Lounge on the 1st of May.

It’s always interesting to hear where it all started. I have been DJing since 2003, so it’s eight years now. Originally I wanted to be a dancer/choreographer. I’ve been dancing my whole life, but after stepping into my first hard dance club it all changed. After dancing all night and watching everyone dance it made me realise how much I loved watching people dance and that I'd love to make people dance, and create that feeling on the dance floor. So through certain songs and track lists, I try and make the best dancing experience for the punters, because I know how amazing it feels to lose it on the dance floor. Before and after my sets that's where I'll be, on the dance floor!”

To describe her sound, she went on the say that it is “hard trance / hard dance. Combined with tough kicks and bass, huge melodies with sexy twisted girl vocals, whilst scratching, sampling, using acapellas, and doing my own vocals wherever I can”.

Dj XDream started producing in 2006 with the first track 'Immortal' being released on a Australian transmission CD and over the past years are some collaborations such as 'Music' by XDream & Yoshi, which reached #23 on trackitdown.net. 'To myself' by XDream & shock:force, which reached # 2 on trackitdown.net and stayed in the top 5 for over a month! “That was really exciting for us. I will definitely be doing a lot more collaborations in the near future. I will also have more solo releases coming out later this year”. In addition, the tracks 'Music' and 'To myself' are featured on her new CD 'Central Energy 2011'.

We asked what big events she performed at that stand out, and are worth mentioning. MAINSTAGE TRANSMISSION: playing to 8000 people was incredible. It was my biggest dream to play main stage at transmission, so it was amazing to have done it four times. I couldn't be happier. DEFQON Australia: Both years an unbelievable crowd and atmosphere! BIONIC U.K: My first gig in the U.K. at the famous Bionic. It was absolutely amazing, the crowd was wild! Loved it!

A great artist such as XDream has without a doubt spoken highly of her best collaboration ever. “Definately SHOCK:FORCE.. It has been a dream come true. In the studio we just clicked and agreed on everything. I've been a fan of the boys for years, I absolutely love their music and out of the studio Matt and Sully are amazing people, so it’s an absolute pleasure knowing them and working with them”.

Her favourite track right now is ‘Sunrise' - SHOCK:FORCE remix and favourite track of all time she says is tied, 3-way’s: Second Trip' - Hennes n cold remix, Fire wire' - Cosmic Gate and Expansion' - Walt n Feliz. Also, what is her favourite label? She says the old vinyl’s: Pulse, Overdrive, Anthem, Tracid Traxx, Blutonium & Tranzlation.

DJ  Archie changed my life, It was his sets that helped me find this music, that made me realise my dream, I want to be a DJ. Also, Scot Project. I will never forget the days of 'Hands up' 'Second trip' 'Overdrive' etc. (I just got goose bumps all over my body thinking about it!). Those were the best days and he changed music and hard trance forever. Nothing beats that style. Those build up’s, those feelings... The man is a genius!

'If I'm not behind the decks I will be on the dance floor'
