![]() If you were to define the term ‘dance music purist’, you’d take into consideration a number of factors: knowledge, passion and substance. Combine them together and you get Marco V. After playing to a highly receptive crowd in Johannesburg and Durban, Marco V has placed his mark into the memory of all fans here in Southern Africa. He will take his legend forward to Budapest, Hungary on the 6th of November. When you talk about the ‘Dutch Melting Pot of Talent’, you are sure to come up first with the name Marco V from The Netherlands. This solid performer has started his career two decades ago, before most of our big names in dance began. Fellow countryman and DJ Sander Van Doorn (voted 12th in the world by DJMag Poll 2010), claims that Marco V is a big inspiration and is one of the major reasons he started making music. Sander VD will be the first to admit that Marco V has an irritatingly calm nature during his set, when the rest of the building is going mad! All in a day’s work I suppose. I met with Marco V just before his concert in Johannesburg and noticed that he is extremely humble and has his feet firmly on the ground. He is the longest performing most successful DJ from The Netherlands, a title that overshadows all other world famous Dutch DJs, yet he will not even acknowledge this viewpoint which is shared by all of his fans. A great prestige this year for any artist, is to appear in the DJMag Top 100 Poll 2010, which Marco V did with ease at number 67. Most artists do a giant effort into remixing as many songs as possible, releasing tracks on various labels at strategic times etc. The motivation is based on getting a name out there. Our nr 1 artist this year, Armin Van Buuren, has done exactly that this year. Marco V is something different. He does not like to do any remixes and has still kept his name within the top 100 DJs of the world. Keeping true to his belief to play only music that he personally likes, he has maintained his prominent position at the main stages of large events around the world. So many so, that he does not even remember them all. Imagine being at that level in your career? What I must say, is that nothing but hard work and perseverance reflects from this naturally talented artist. He is a walking inspiration to other people aspiring to follow a career in the music industry. Marco V entered the text books of dance a very long time ago. These textbooks are now being studied by other fledglings learning how to fly. Talk about being a forefront runner! Marco V and Sander Van Doorn have collaborated on a number of productions, which reflects from the wonderful string of talent that hails from The Netherlands. Watch out for his new compilation release ‘The Art Of’. Check out: www.marcov.nl By Andrea Steyn
